The most common reason aftermarket wheels are returned for the Ram 1500 is ordering the wrong bolt pattern during the overlap model years. Ram sold two distinct half-ton architectures simultaneously: the fourth-generation DS platform, known as the Ram 1500 Classic, and the fifth-generation DT platform, known as the all-new Ram 1500. Each uses an entirely incompatible wheel bolt pattern.

Fourth-generation DS Classic models produced from 2009 through 2024 utilize a 5-lug hub with a 5x139.7 mm (5x5.5 inch) bolt pattern. In contrast, fifth-generation DT models launched in 2019 switched to a 6-lug hub with a 6x139.7 mm (6x5.5 inch) pattern to accommodate larger brake rotors and higher payload ratings.

Before ordering a wheel and tire package, physically count the lug studs on your truck. If you have 5 lugs, your truck is a DS Classic; if you have 6 lugs, your truck is a DT new body style. Checking the 4th and 5th characters of the VIN also confirms the chassis: DS VINs begin with 1C6RR or 1C6RD, whereas DT VINs begin with 1C6SR or 1C6SD.

Both generations share a 77.8 mm hub-centric pilot bore. When selecting tires like the Falken Wildpeak A/T4W or the Nitto Recon Grappler A/T, ensure your aftermarket wheels include 77.8 mm hub rings if the wheel center bore is oversized, and use narrow spline-drive M14x1.5 lug nuts for proper clearance.

Installing the correct wheel offset also preserves steering geometry. Factory Ram wheels feature positive offsets between +19 mm and +25 mm. Running overly aggressive zero or negative offset wheels without a leveling kit will push the tire outward into the fender liner during full steering lock.

## Product pages to compare

- Falken Wildpeak A/T4W: heavy-duty all-terrain tire matching 20-inch 5-lug and 6-lug Ram factory wheel dimensions. - Nitto Recon Grappler A/T: aggressive light truck tire engineered for highway quietness and all-season traction on Ram 1500 trucks.

## Before checkout

- Physically count the lug studs on your truck (5 lugs vs 6 lugs). - Confirm the aftermarket wheel bolt pattern matches exactly (5x139.7 for Classic vs 6x139.7 for New Body). - Verify 77.8mm hub-centric centering rings are included if wheels have universal large center bores. - Purchase M14x1.5 spline lug nuts compatible with aftermarket wheel lug holes.
