Truck tire load range and service description: what matters before checkout

Truck tire shopping belongs with the service description, not the tread photo. Load index, speed rating, load range, and inflation requirements decide whether the tire belongs on a half-ton commuter, a tow rig, or a heavy-duty work truck. A tire can look tough and still be a poor match for the truck's real job. Fitment Pilot guide with vehicle, part, stock, and seller checks.

Load range letters are familiar, but they are not the whole answer. The actual load index tells the buyer how much weight the tire is rated to carry. The truck's door placard, axle rating, wheel rating, trailer use, and cargo habits all matter. A driver who tows regularly needs more margin than a driver who mostly commutes empty.

Ride quality belongs in the decision too. A heavier-duty tire can feel firmer, weigh more, and affect fuel economy or braking feel. That may be acceptable for towing or work use, but it should not surprise the buyer after installation.

Before paying, confirm the exact size, load index, speed rating, load range, approved rim width, warranty notes, and stock status for a set of four. If a seller hides those values behind a generic title, look for a clearer listing.
