Jeep Wrangler JL tire clearance: wheel width, offset, and rubbing checks

On a Wrangler JL, tire clearance is geometry with trail habits attached. The printed tire size matters, but wheel width, offset, backspacing, fender setup, bump-stop length, lift height, and suspension travel decide the real margin. A driveway fit is not the same as trail clearance.

Use the tire's measured dimensions, not only the sidewall label. Two tires with the same size can differ in tread width and shoulder shape. A square-shouldered mud tire may touch sooner than a rounded all-terrain. Wheel choice matters too: less backspacing moves the tire outward and can trade inner clearance for fender or flare contact.

Match the order to how the Jeep is used. A street-driven JL can live with tighter space than one that flexes on rocks or rough forest roads. When suspension travel is part of the plan, inspect where the tread moves during compression and steering, not only where it sits parked.

Before checkout, compare diameter, section width, wheel spec, lift height, bump-stop needs, trimming expectations, and return terms. A seller page that promises a size without wheel assumptions is giving only half the answer.
